Welp, I actually did finish the 12 characters meme, and never had the energy to get the last section posted, what with holidays and bustle and bright stars going out in the sky.

This is Part Two of Three.  I still haven't managed to fill the final prompt in this mad spree, nor have I given up on it, so there will be a third installment with the last handful of prompts.

I've been really quiet lately, I know . . . not even commenting on posts, let alone posting, and not always online at all, except during [livejournal.com profile] fic_rush.   I miss you all!  A lot!  There is no great trauma or lurking trouble behind the quiet and absence; mostly, it's been a couple of dizzyingly busy months, with not a lot of energy.  We've had a very quiet and low-key Christmas as well.

Having entirely failed to write anything of substance in ages, I finally succumbed to the Twelve Characters meme, with handy generator, that [livejournal.com profile] lost_spook and [livejournal.com profile] john_amend_all whomped up between them.  However, before I post the cracky bits that I've already produced, I wanted to give the meme a chance to pick up even more random input from others.

So -- I have twelve characters.  If you have any prompts up your sleeve, feel free to present them in the comments!  If you've never seen this meme before, check out this journal entry for some samples.  Prompts need to use one or more of the mystery characters, by number.  (For example: "Six and Twelve have to cook dinner for Eight and Three.  What cuisine do they attempt?  Are they any good at it?  Why are they all having dinner together, and what happens when Two shows up uninvited?")

Another prompt fill for [livejournal.com profile] lost_spook's Obscure & British fest, although with a difference this time; I subverted the prompt a little.  Also, I'm putting it at the end.

Girl Talk

Natasha Romanov had told her current case officer that it was a small, tidy cottage in rural Sussex – a typical retirement spot for a former civil servant.

It wasn’t, of course. The former civil servant had never actually been anything of the kind (well, civility had certainly been involved), the retirement spot was not a cottage, and rural Sussex was a ridiculous idea. The case officer was going to be furious, of course, when he finally caught up, and would undoubtedly do something drastic, like write a nasty report. In triplicate.

Natasha buzzed a total of four times, in a specific pattern. The security system immediately clicked and blinked a green light, and the door smoothly unlocked and allowed her access to the private lift that zipped her up to the penthouse flat.

This was written for [livejournal.com profile] dbskyler's Doctor Who 50th anniversary ficathon.  Skyler included a prompt for any fic based on The Curse of Fatal Death, with "Bonus points for lots of silly humor".

I'm sure my friends will be astonished to hear that I jumped all over that prompt like a manic kitten on crack (as opposed to crack on a manic kitten*).  I think this is the first fic for that ficathon to be posted!

If you have never seen The Curse of Fatal Death, you really should watch it first.  It will take you about 20 minutes.  Unless you watch it more than once.

*Already did that.

“Hiding behind the sofa won’t be any use this time.” The Doctor’s tone was severe, but his eyes held a gentle twinkle.

had we but space enough, and time . . . )

Update: Teaspoon rejected the story when I tried to post it there, because an in joke in the summary didn't meet their posting guidelines.

Apparently, once a story is rejected, it's gone from the interface -- so, although I've been told I can "resubmit after editing", this will require me to re-do all the work I just did -- so, forget it.  I'll post it to my usual locations (ff.net, Ao3 and LJ).  The Teaspoon posting interface is even uglier to use than ff.net (I hadn't thought that was possible), and I really don't have the energy for it.

Update 2: Thanks to
[livejournal.com profile] dbskyler's wonderful support and advice, and some sleep, I'm doing much better and will try Teaspoon again.

Remember the improbable discussion from last weekend?  I'm still dreadfully tempted to write a dark!laundryfic.

Remember the ‘Placeholder’ post I put on here late in June, for the story I'd written for the [livejournal.com profile] sg1friendathon? The story was the second one finished and was supposed to ‘go live’ on August 2nd, but, well, there was some kind of mixup.  (And yes, it was awkward.) So here it is, at last.

The ficathon was specifically gen stories, 1000 word minimum, focused on friendship.  My prompt was: “Daniel, Sam. Five times they have to pretend to be married and things get really awkward for SG-1.” (This is, in fact, the only time I’ve ever written to a ‘five things’ prompt.)

Well, That Was Awkward

(aka ‘Five times that Sam and Daniel pretended to be married’)

“You’re makin’ way too big a deal outta this,” Jack said.

The neon blare of the motel sign blinked on and off, waves of harsh pink light and dank shadow. They could hear the hum of mosquitoes outside the car, in the sweltering night. The light flashed on, catching glints from Daniel’s glasses, Jack’s Beretta as he checked it and stowed it in an inner pocket, Teal’c’s gold brand. Teal’c picked up the straw hat that lay on the seat beside him and carefully settled it on his head.

“Sir, I really don’t like the idea of registering as Daniel’s wife.”

Awkward, awkward . . .  )

I'm not entirely sure who I get to blame this time; the prompt challenge first appeared on [livejournal.com profile] sg_fignewton's journal, but it was the fault of [livejournal.com profile] traycer_ and [livejournal.com profile] curuchamion that I was there in the first place, so it's several people's fault.  The point is, I signed up for the [livejournal.com profile] sg1friendathon, committing to write a 1000 word minimum story, gen, friendship-focused (no shipping), from a claimed prompt.

This was, and is, the master list of prompts.  Fics will be revealed starting the first of August.

I've already completed mine, bar final beta-ing.  What can I say?  It was a good prompt.  Very subvertible!

I'm now trying to decide whether I'm inclined to claim a second prompt.  So, if anyone feels inclined to review the list of prompts and make a case for any of them, please do!  You will have to skip the Cam prompts; I don't have nearly a good enough hold on his character to attempt any of them.  Same with Landry.

Input would be much appreciated!

BTW, the prompt I claimed and have finished was #25 on the master list:  Daniel, Sam. Five times they have to pretend to be married and things get really awkward for SG-1.  In other words, "Five ways to twist a tired Stargate trope", bwaha.

Well, it's been several weeks since I last posted, so by tradition, I should now post a picture of a cat.

I have no cat.

I do have some pictures of lizards that I need to download from my camera.  Maybe I'll post those tomorrow.

For now, I shall indulge in another fine LJ tradition:  which I shall place behind a cut. )
